According to a chart making the rounds from UK-based research firm IHS, Android Market revenues in 2010 came in at an estimated $102 million, up from $11 million the year before.

And how did that compare to revenues from Apple’s App Store? Apple App Store revenues came in at an estimated $1.7 billion in 2010, almost 20 times bigger than Android. And Apple App Store revenue grew at a not-too-shabby 131.9 percent rate. More importantly, Apple accounts for 83 percent of the total estimated app store revenues.

It’s great that Android app store revenues are growing so fast, but whenever you see such sky-high numbers, be sure to look at what is the base they are growing from. Android will have to keep growing at astounding rates for a few more years simply to catch up to where Apple’s App Store is today.

If you are an app developer trying to make money, you still really don’t have much of a choice about where to put your apps. No wonder Apple feels like it can treat app developers any way it wants, and take an increasing percentage of their revenues.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16582765310543782889noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789839067800850518.post-8598200814316089922011-02-08T05:07:00.000-08:002011-02-08T05:07:29.707-08:00GroundLink now allows New Yorkers to find car service from their iPhoneFolks living or visiting the New York Tri-State area can now book a car service via GroundLink from the comfort of their iPhone. No longer will you have to call a car service or black car company and wonder if your car is actually on its way. Thanks to the GroundLink app, you can order cars for immediate pickup or future reservations and track vehicle as it makes its way to your location in order to pick it up.

You simply download the app, which then finds your location using the built-in GPS receiver. GroundLink then presents you with a map showing the closest available cars. After confirming, the car is dispatched and appears on a map so it can be easily tracked as it heads to the pickup location. You can either put in your drop-off location or simply tell the driver where you want to go after pickup.

Finally, the application allows you to see the final price of the ride when you book rather than having to wait to be surprised when you finally reach your destination.

GroundLink currently works with a number of different companies in New York, including LimoRes and Velocity, and is looking to partner with other operators to expand the service.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16582765310543782889noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789839067800850518.post-11373887443419366842011-02-02T08:18:00.000-08:002011-02-02T08:18:09.983-08:00iOS 4.3 compatible apps shown in the app store !It seems like Apple has started approving some apps in the app store which claims to be iOS 4.3 compatible suggesting iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users shouldn't wait long for the new update. The shocking element to me was the iPhone results that showed the interest in the iPhone is decreasing from June 2010 to September 2010.

This would indicate in part that the aggressive expansion of Google Android phones is working – at least in the area of stealing Apple’s market share of attention on the iPhone. I believe that Apple needs to start opening up iPhone markets by expanding to other carriers – and this should happen sooner rather later.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16582765310543782889noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789839067800850518.post-59924860015554301472011-01-15T00:43:00.001-08:002011-01-15T00:43:59.217-08:00Verizon iPhone 5 Release Date Expected by July 2011Now that we have the iPhone 4 antenna drama seemingly behind us, it’s time to start focusing on the next iteration of Apple’s iPhone – the iPhone 5. Tentative release dates for the iPhone 5 is July 2011, and this release could be coming directly from Verizon. What’s great about the next version of the iPhone is that it may no longer be restricted to the AT&T.

Verizon is already testing their CDMA network for both the iPhone. The next version of the iPhone will more than likely be called iPhone 5. Unless, of course, we get an iPhone 4G and an iPhone 4GS first.

The most popular feature that people would be looking for on the iPhone 5 would be a 4G wireless connection. Although Sprint has been aggressively pursuing the 4G market, I don’t think it will take long for Verizon to trump Sprint in their expansion efforts, which would then allow a 4G enabled iPhone to dominate the mobile phone market.

Thoughts?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16582765310543782889noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789839067800850518.post-45144973180822595362011-01-12T00:27:00.000-08:002011-01-12T00:27:38.536-08:00Microsoft's made its complaint official Apple had the original App StoreThat Apple had the original App Store isn't under dispute, but should the company have the right to exclude others from using the same term to describe their program repositories? Microsoft says no, and has this week filed a motion with the US Patent and Trademark Office asking for it to dismiss Apple's trademark claim for "App Store."

Arguing that the mark's constituent words are generic both individually and as a pair, Microsoft brings out the big guns by quoting Steve Jobs himself, whose exposition on the topic of Android fragmentation included specific mention of multiple "app stores" for the Google OS.

It would seem this has been brewing for a while, too, as the last update - dated 7th of July, 2010 - on Apple's trademark application notes there's a "pending" opposition to its claim. Now that Microsoft's made its complaint official, it'll be interesting to see on which side of the great divide the decision falls.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16582765310543782889noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789839067800850518.post-59086347302800384302009-10-12T08:36:00.000-07:002009-10-12T08:41:57.794-07:00Souped up HP Mini 311 options coming soonThe HP Mini 311 is already a pretty full featured machine as far as low power mini-laptops go. It has a high resolution 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, NVIDIA ION LE graphics, and gets close to 6 hours of battery life. But it looks like things are about to get even better.

Right now, the laptop ships with 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and NVIDIA ION LE which doesn’t support DirectX 10. But the folks at MyHPMini discovered a few interesting things in the computer’s service manual.

Basically, the HP Mini 311 will soon be available with Windows 7, and while some computer makers are restricting their mini-laptops to run only Windows 7 Starter, the HP Mini 311 will be available with a choice of Windows 7 Starter, Basic, Premium, and Professional. Or at least it will support all of those options, it remains to be seen whether HP will offer all four options to customers.

Once the Windows 7 models hit the shelves, you’ll also start seeing the HP Mini 311 with full NVIDIA ION support (no more LE), 2 or 3GB of RAM, 250GB or 320GB hard drives or an 80GB solid state disk

Of course, most of these options are likely going to drive up the price, and the $399 price tag is one of the most appealing things about the HP Mini 311 today. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a low end model with Windows 7 Starter Edition continuing to sell for under $400.

Free Web Contenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15475699924576503921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789839067800850518.post-74853031036700399872009-06-24T23:34:00.000-07:002009-06-24T23:40:42.416-07:00The Sony Ericsson W995<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 218px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXOHsVk7517RMFYzrGNGjgU2cjw7ZAM7C8VQFgt9iUYea7q08QPCxo8Sl7317vh_U_txW2De7twBoG6rpCHotw-ApBhe_9SuJi0O_sIXel557jcvN-WJIB4mxbUuvQ0s3L4x4_mkwazRFI/s320/Sony-Ericsson-W995.jpg" border="0" title="The Sony Ericsson W995"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5351150497762165602" /> We know that Sony Ericsson is a world wide well known cell phone brands.
